Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin got married on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 8, in a private ceremony on an outdoor terrace at a house with a view of Vulcan and overlooking the city with close family in attendance.

The newly wedded couple shared photos on social media Monday.

Woodfin, who a source said is now on his honeymoon, did not respond to a call or text message, but posted a video montage on social media.

“It was definitely a beautiful event,” said the Rev. Thomas Beavers, pastor of New Rising Star Baptist Church in Birmingham, who officiated the ceremony. “It was one for the books. I was just glad to be a part of it.”

Woodfin announced March 20 that he had proposed to Kendra Morris, who he has been dating since 2021. They shared their engagement photoshoot from Barber Motorsports Museum on social media in September.

Morris is an owner and real estate broker at Iron City Premier Realty. Morris has two sons, Aubrey and Mason, who were 15 and 9 at the time of the engagement, so Woodfin will now be a stepfather.

The Rev. John Cantelow, senior pastor of Sixth Avenue Baptist Church, said that Woodfin had talked with him several weeks ago about the possibility of a wedding at the church that Woodfin grew up attending.

“He was going to have it at the church Dec. 31, but decided to do it in secret,” said Cantelow, who did not attend the wedding.

Former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones, a friend and close political ally of Woodfin, also said he was not invited. “It must have been low-key,” Jones said.

The wedding came as a surprise to many who found out today that it had taken place.

Birmingham City Council member Darrell O’Quinn said he was not aware of Woodfin’s wedding. “That’s news to me,” he said.
