HBCU Roundup, Week 3: Miles Takes Unbeaten Record on Road to Ark. Pine-Bluff

Miles College is off to an impressive 2-0 start. The Golden Bears will have a chance to put another one in the win column this week with a visit to Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m.

The Golden Bears will face another team from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and has been able to move the football quite well. The Golden Bears have already scored a combined 58 points in their first two victories.

On offense, Miles College has a strong ground game led by running back Jonero Scott who scored two touchdowns and had 17 carries for 74 yards in the 21-17 win over Alabama State University last week.

The Golden Bears can also throw the football down the field. Miles College quarterback Edwin Kleinpeter and wide receiver Jaih Andrews have made some big plays through the air.

Miles College takes a lot of momentum into this non-conference match with Arkansas-Pine Bluff. It looks like another big week for Miles College and other teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Speaking of the SIAC, Tuskegee University will host Central State on Saturday, Sept. 16. The kickoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Golden Tigers are on a roll with a 2-0 record. Tuskegee University quarterback Bryson Williams completes 63.33 percent of his passes and does a nice job of spreading the ball around to his receivers. Wide receiver Antonio Meeks has made some big receptions.

Cornerback Malik Moore has played some great football on the defensive side. In just two games, he has 15 total and 10 solo tackles along with 4.0 tackles for loss and two sacks.

In the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), Alabama A&M will travel to Baton Rouge, La. to play Southern on Saturday, Sept. 16. The kickoff will be at 6 p.m.

The Bulldogs will lean on running back Ryan Morrow who has rushed for 191 yards on 18 carries while scoring three TDs in the 51-13 win over Lane College . Morrow will help Alabama A&M control the offense on the ground with his running skills.

Defensively, safety Marvin Smith has been a major player in the Bulldogs’ secondary. Smith has 15 total and seven solo tackles to lead the team. He also has one interception.
