Late Sunday, protesters began trying to tear down a Confederate monument in Birmingham’s Linn Park and damaged a number of downtown buildings and businesses. The mayhem came a week after police in Minneapolis killed George Floyd, an African American man, sparking nationwide protests. In Birmingham, the repairs began almost immediately.
