The first week of May means commencement season is here. We asked Birmingham-area residents, what advice would you have for graduates?
Dhana Todd: “Find out what you want to do instead of going out there and doing what everyone else wants you to do. You’ll be more passionate if it’s what you want versus something that other people want you to do.”
Allison Westlake: “Be open to try new things in your career as well as your life. You can always make changes and if you try something at first and you like it, great, but if not then look at other options . . . don’t get stunted in your job search . . . because you’re trying to find something perfect, find a place to start and let it grow from there.”
Elizabeth Galloway: “[Don’t] be afraid to branch out and get out of your comfort zone while you’re searching for your new opportunity. Don’t be afraid to reach out to people and any connections you may have and use your resources wisely.”
Sherrelle Smith: Be open to exploring different career opportunities and look for internships and seek out mentors. If you have your mind set on one career, explore other options and give yourself the freedom to do that.”
