The Housing Authority of the Birmingham District (HABD) along with Hollyhand Development on Friday celebrated the completion of a $19 million modern apartment community in Oxmoor Valley.
A formerly wooded hill has been transformed into the new “Park at Sydney Drive,” a 120-unit apartment complex. The development is a partnership between Hollyhand Development and HABD to enhance the city’s landscape and improve the quality of life for hundreds of Birmingham residents.
HABD President/CEO Michael Lundy said the development represents a new era for housing in the city.
“This is a dream that has finally come to fruition where hundreds of people will now enjoy a higher standard of residential living that we all desire for ourselves and our families,” Lundy said.
The development includes 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apartments complete with washer/dryer connections, energy efficient appliances, walk-in closets, covered porches/patios, playgrounds, and a community center with a fitness and computer room.
“This is a development that has long been anticipated, and we are all pleased to be a part of it,” said Win Yerby, President/Managing Member, Hollyhand Development. “We have endeavored to set a new standard with the Park at Sydney Drive. Everything about this development is the definition of quality, modern and affordable living.”
Regions Bank, another financial partner in the project, also hails its opening.
“The Park at Sydney Drive is a great example of what can be accomplished when different partners work together for the good of the community,” said C. Reed Dolihite, Regions Vice President of Affordable Housing. “Regions Bank is honored to be a part of this development that provides quality, safe affordable housing for residents in our community.”
