Recently, the Shelby County, AL, Tuskegee University Alumni Club had its annual Scholarship Fundraiser at the home of Mrs. Betty Slaughter in Indian Springs.

This year’s fundraiser honored Michael Glenn, Executive Chef at Blue Cross Blue Shield who was recipient of the Community Service Award and a scholarship in his name. Glenn was selected because of his generosity to many community causes and help with various corporations, churches, charities, students, sororities, fraternities, neighborhood associations, and social clubs.

In addition to the award and scholarship, the Alumni Club also presented him with the Tuskegee Jacket.  Many gifts, proclamations, and awards were also presented to Glenn for his outstanding service including from the Alabama State Senate, Alabama House of Representatives, Birmingham Mayor’s Office, City of Leeds, Jefferson County Commission, Leeds City Council and the Metro Chapter of the  Birmingham NAACP.

Those in attendance included Michael’s mother, who he praises for teaching him what it means to be humble and compassionate toward others, and other family members, friends, colleagues and representatives from several businesses which included Wells Fargo and Office Max.

All of the funds raised for the scholarship in Glenn’s name will be presented to students at Tuskegee University.
