Jay Roberson announced Wednesday he will seek reelection to Birmingham City Council’s District 7.
The city election is Aug. 22.
“I want to continue the momentum we have created in the district and in Birmingham and I look forward to continuing to serve the people of the Magic City” Councilor Roberson said.
Roberson said his accomplishments in District 7 include recruiting a new Publix Supermarket to the district, serving as a mentor and using their platform in the community to combat youth violence.
“The investments we make in our children is an investment in our future. Thanks to the investments I’ve made, District 7 is now a place where a child can go from a pre-k education to college without having to leave the district. I have and will continue to invest in youth, education, athletics, and vocational programs in District 7 to give our young people exposure and opportunities to be successful,” Roberson said.
“District 7 is also becoming a place that provides amenities that meet the span of needs experienced by all growing families,” he said.
Roberson has dedicated his life to mentoring young people and developed countless programs to assist in the future of our youth. It is through these programs that Roberson received President Barack Obama’s volunteer service award.
Roberson said he vision for the future of District 7 and the City of Birmingham includes cooperation.
“We must all work together to continue the success we have started, and create the safe and productive neighborhoods for all of us to work and live.”
