On April 29, Growing Kings is hosting their annual fundraising gala, Chucks & Tux, at one of the largest most unique ven-ues in or around the community-Old Car Heaven.

This event is designed to attract a diverse mix of partygoers that include members of the local philanthropic community, civic leaders, and both young and seasoned professionals. Guests are encour-aged to wear Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers along with their formal attire to match the distinct flare of the event’s overall theme as Chucks & Tux will blend the timeless trend of Chuck Taylor Converse shoes with the dressed to impress night scene.

A unique feature of the event is a silent auction that will include custom designed Chuck Taylors from winners of the Student Design Shoe Competition. These winners will be invited to attend a two-day Student Shoe Design camp hosted by the UAB Department of Art & Art History, in which they will bring their designs to life on actu-al Chuck Taylor Converses.

“We understand that there are many students in Birmingham City schools who possess great artistic talents that can often go undeveloped due to a lack of resources,” says Marcus Carson, Growing Kings’ executive director, “and for this reason, we wanted to develop this contest as a way to provide an outlet for students to explore their artistic abilities, which in turn encourages their personal development through self-discovery.”

Chucks & Tux will also feature a host committee consisting of representatives from our sponsors, as well as members of civic organizations, social clubs, and local civic leaders. This year, Chucks & Tux Host Committee members include mem-bers such as Judge Javan Paton, Lauren Lake, Brittany Faush-Johnson, and Mike Graham.

Tickets for Chucks & Tux are on sale now and can be purchased online at www.growingkings.org/chucksandtux
