The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority and the City of Bessemer are partnering to better serve the Bessemer community.

BJCTA will provide additional transportation for shoppers and employees. Riders will have a chance to travel to the Tannehill Promenade Shopping Center, the newly renovated Bessemer Recreation Center, and the Dollar General Warehouse on Lakeshore Parkway.

This will be an introduction pilot service starting in January 2017.

“Many Bessemer residents depend on bus service for their transportation needs,” said Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley. “Whether it is traveling to and from work or visiting hospitals and doctors, we know many of our residents would be at a disadvantage and face great hardships were it not for bus service operating in our city.”

Gulley points out that the 1 and 45 routes that service Bessemer has some of the highest ridership numbers in the entire system.

The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority has already started their holiday service routes, which includes the Bessemer shopping route to the Tannehilll Promenade, that service started Sunday Nov. 27, and will end on Sunday Dec. 18.
