New Hope Baptist Church will host a carnival for the residents of West End and surrounding communities. The Unity in the Community Carnival will take place Saturday at 10 a.m. and will have amusement rides, live music, food, free health screenings and a blood drive. Local businesses will also be present with vendor booths for shopping opportunities.
The carnival, which is free and open to the public, is to speak out against violence and raise community awareness as a preventive measure against future violence.
Organizers of this event say this event is all about bringing families together, uniting as one in unity.
“Every day that we turn our radios and televisions on we hear of someone that’s been shot or killed locally and nationally,” organizers said. “The community has to come together caring for one another, having concern for one other, and listening to each other.”
The carnival will take place at the large parking lot, across the street from New Hope Baptist Church.
“Where there is unity, there is strength,” organizers said. “These things and God’s help are the only way we can take our community back.”
