Ed May, II was elected Tuesday as mayor of Fairfield.

May received 1,004 votes to Johnnie Wyatt’s 922 in the runoff election.

“It’s an honor to say the least that people have chosen to give me their vote,” May said. “I’m thankful for God to responding to my prayers.”

May said he will begin immediately to address problems facing the city.

“My first intention is to deal with the fiscal issue and fix the trash problem,” he said. “I am going to give the citizens the type of services that they have been used to and deserve. That’s at the top of my list.”

May said he plans to meet with members of the City Council to authorize funds for audits. Once the financial concerns are addressed May said he can began to work on making sure that Fairfield has a strong commercial presence and new developments for its downtown areas.

May also said he hopes to build relationships with the city of Birmingham and Miles College, the city’s primary higher education institute.
