The Metro Birmingham NAACP & Youth will partner with a number of area organizations to hold an Information Fair/Community Empowerment Day on Saturday, Sept. 10 to provide steps on domestic violence prevention and shine the light on healthy relationships.

The event will be held from noon until 4 p.m. in the 4th Avenue Business District area.

The Empowerment Day will provide knowledge for prevention, appropriate response and show support for survivors of domestic violence. It will also offer workshops for young men and women on wholesome relationships.

“Standing for a cause such as the Community Empowerment Day is very important as we work together with the youth and others in our city,” said Hezekiah Jackson, President of the Metro Birmingham NAACP.

A number of activities are planned including workshops for young men and women on how to deal with conflict in a relationship. Included will be facilitators who will offer knowledge for prevention, appropriate responses and how to show support for survivors of domestic violence and give them insight on what a positive relationship is.

Representatives from United Way of Central Alabama will be on hand to discuss their services. The Birmingham Police Department Prime Prevention Office will be on site to explain what they do. Two bands and students from several area school football teams will be there along with the 4th Avenue Merchants Association and representatives from Urban Impact and the Royal Impact as well.

The Community Day will feature a gated children’s area with balloons, candy, games, soft beverages, hot dogs, burgers, back packs, water, informational booths and tables and free services and handouts.
