Special to The Times
The 7th Annual District 1 Music & Movie Festival will be held on Friday, Aug. 5.
The festival is hosted by Birmingham City Councilor Lashunda Scales.
“Wholesome, inexpensive activities are hard to find when you’re on a limited budget,” said Scales. “With crime amongst our youth at its highest and a struggling economy, it is imperative that city leaders engage local businesses and organizations in efforts that provide quality experiences for our children while also offering affordable alternative programs for families.”
Entertainment includes singer Phillipia from Tyler Perry’s movie, Madea’s Family Reunion; Violinist Josh Vietti, and Logan the Entertainer. Water slides for people of all ages will also be at the festival, as well as a movie at sunset.
The event is free.
The festival presented to “enhance the quality of life for constituents and citizens at-large,” Scales said.
Residents are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, picnic baskets, and blankets. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the show begins at 6 p.m. at Huffman High School’s rear practice field.
