Birmingham, Alabama is not an easy city to market. Many have tried, but few have conquered. If you’ve never tried to promote your product in Birmingham, it’s really like the “Apollo Theaters” of the South.
One comic who continues to win big in the Magic City is Lavell Crawford. Each time I’ve gone, Lavell Crawford has been a hit.
This year, the rain didn’t stop the crowds. The line was wrapped around the building!
Coming to the stage in his signature suit and bowtie, Birmingham had the chance to experience a mature, but still off the wall, Lavell Crawford. His jokes were provocative, but definitely relevant for the age group.
Poking fun of his weight and the silly antics he gets into as Lavell Crawford, Crawford even joked about religious people having to earn your respect and what it is like being raised by a fast talking, Southern Baptist BLACK MAMA! (Tisk Tisk to say the least)
One of the things that I really enjoyed about Lavell’s show is that “unlike most comics” of his caliber, he brought new jokes to the stage. During his hour-long set, I can honestly say that 99% of the material appeared to be NEW.
Being able to do this and engage a Birmingham audience proves that Lavell’s magic wasn’t a FLUKE.
Another year, I can say that I laughed till I cried.
Opening up for Lavell Crawford was my fellow Atlien, Double D. This silly comedian didn’t hold back. Double D definitely knew how to deliver a fun and interactive show. One part of the set that I thought was hilarious was when an audience member poked fun “at his tight suit!” Double D took it in stride and used this moment to create a very fun and interactive comedy battle. For more information about Double D, visit his website at www.comediandoubled.com/
Lavell Crawford is scheduled to appear in the upcoming Adam Sandler film, “The Ridiculous Six!” The film will debut on #Netflix December 11th.
