Wednesday night the #AtlantaHawks (9-2) took on the New Orleans Pelicans (2-7) at the Phillips Arena in Atlanta. Fans crowded the Phillips Arena in bus loads to see if the home team could repeat the #HawksMania phenomena that fans witnessed last season.
The Hawks started off the first three quarters very shaky. After fans watched several shots missed, a few turnovers occur, and a questionable defensive line, many fans questioned if the team could regain the momentum to defeat the Pelicans. By half-time, Pelicans fans appeared confident that they were destined to win the game.
Despite being the underdog coming into the game, the New Orleans Pelicans continued to play tough defense the first three quarters; standing toe-to-toe with the Atlanta Hawks.
After trailing by nearly 11 points in the 3rd Quarter, Hawks players Jeff Teague, Kyle Korver, Paul Milsap, Dennis Schroder, and Thabo Sefolosha turned the heat up in the Phillips Arena as they took no prisoners in the 4th Quarter. As the pep squad began to roar, it seemed as if the team that Atlanta LOVED was back. In a surprising upset, the Hawks remained #TrueToAtlanta by bringing another victory.
In an interview with Paul Newberry of CBS Sports, Pelicans star player, Eric Gordon blamed the loss on being short-handed.
FINAL SCORE Hawks 106 – Pelicans 98
This Sunday the Hawks will take on the Utah Jazz at 6:00pm EST.
