Birmingham Water Works Board supports new role of Directors
From Staff Reports
A new arrangement in office has been set for the Directors of the Birmingham Water Works Board (BWWB). In last Friday’s regularly scheduled board meeting the board unanimously elected Ronald Mims – former BWWB general manager – to serve as Chairman of the water system.
“My objective is to provide the highest level of excellence and commitment to the organization and the community, through the same cooperation and dedication that has propelled me through my career,” said Chairman Mims. “I am a team player and greatly concerned about growth in this five county area.”
Once seated in the head chair, Mims motioned to rearrange the positions of his fellow directors. In one simple vote Director Kevin Mckie moved from the standing of assistant secretary-treasurer to first vice-chairman and vice versa for Director Sherry Lewis as she moved from first vice-chairwoman to assistant secretary-treasurer. As for their counterparts, Second Vice-Chairwoman Ann Florie and Secretary-Treasurer George Munchus, their positions will remain the same.
Present in the meeting, Birmingham City Council President Jonathan Austin and Councilor Marcus Lundy spoke giving their strong support to the BWWB. Both echoing the City’s goal of moving the community forward on behalf of the citizens, and in the case of the BWWB the ratepayers.
Beginning in January 2017, the five-member board will expand to nine members; six from Birmingham, and one each from suburban Jefferson, Shelby and Blount counties, leaving Birmingham with a supermajority.
