MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alabama State women’s basketball team found themselves having to go back to the basic fundamentals after a tough 59-50 loss to intra-state rival Alabama A&M last Saturday at the T.M. Elmore Gym in Huntsville, Ala.
“It’s really tough coming off a loss to AAMU, a game that we should have won,” head women’s basketball coach Freda Freeman-Jackson stated. “So now we find ourselves having to revert back to fundamentals because we had a few breakdowns the other night and we have to make sure that we keep control of the ball. We are focusing on our next task and that’s getting the win over Alcorn.”
The Lady Hornets have had to restructure themselves in practice working on detailed fundamentals that will lead to a winning success, placing them back in the front running for the SWAC crown.
Alabama State (7-8, 3-2 SWAC) is preparing for the next bout against the Alcorn State Lady Braves (5-10, 4-2 SWAC) that will take place on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.
“The girls have been practicing hard and preparing for tomorrow’s game,” stated Freeman-Jackson. We have to get ready to play aggressive and play good defense. We are going to need to get our swagger back and stay in line with trying to win a SWAC championship. If we get off track now it’s going to be hard to get back later on.”
The Lady Braves have two players that are leading in scoring, Olivia Brown who is averaging 13 ppg and Norianna Haynes that is averaging 15.3 points a contest. The rebounding charge is led by Angelic Wilson-Reid, who is averaging 7.8 rpg.
