Alabama A&M assistant men’s basketball coach James Wright died, school officials said Wednesday evening.
Wright was 46 years old.
According to the school’s bio, Wright was a graduate of Jackson State in 1993. He was the senior director of the Mo Williams Basketball Camp, which was held annually in Jackson. Wright was teammates with fellow JSU alum and former NBA player Lindsey Hunter.
Williams, former Murrah player who is currently with the Minnesota Timberwolves, tweeted:
“You just don’t know how much this man meant to me. He introduced me to this game that I love so much.…”
AAMU released this statement:
“One of our beloved coaches, Mr. James Wright, has passed. Under the leadership of Head Coach Willie Hayes, Coach Wright served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for the Alabama A&M University Bulldogs and was an integral part of the program. Circumstances surrounding his death are unknown at this time. The University asks that you keep the family of Mr. Wright, as well as his fellow coaches and the men’s basketball team in your prayers. Grief counselors have been made available to the players and staff.”
The school did not release details surround his death.
