MAX Announces Public Hearings for Highway 280 Commuter Services

maxslider1(BIRMINGHAM, AL) –  The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) announces public hearings scheduled in October before the start of a pilot program on Highway 280.  This service will be called Route 201 –Highway 280 Commuter and will operate during the morning and afternoon peak periods between the Walmart Store on Highway 280 and Downtown Birmingham with stops at The Summit, St. Vincent Hospital, UAB, the downtown business district, the Social Security Building, and Central Station. This service is expected to go into effect within the next 60 days after public hearings and town meetings.

Public meetings will be held to solicit public opinions at the following locations:
•    Tuesday, October 9, 2014

“We are excited about this pilot program and look forward to adding more commuter-type services in other areas”, says BJCTA Executive Director, Ann D. August.  BJCTA has taken delivery of seven new buses that will be dedicated to commuter-type services.  Other routes scheduled to begin within the next few months include:  Shuttle services from Shuttlesworth International Airport to downtown Birmingham and Commuter services from the City of Bessemer to Hoover via Highway 150.
