To play an instrument, such as a trumpet, eloquently, is an inborn trait. This is the vibe that resonates throughout Outset (Realbirds Records), the new debut album by trumpeter and composer Itamar Borochov and his quartet. An innovative musician, Borochov brings a fresh take that’s extremely noticeable. Brilliancy runs in his genes.
“Pain Song” opens Outset. The melancholy melody here is mind-blowing. “Samsara”, the following track, is not short in movement as it takes a lot of wonderful twist and turns. Borochov has poured lot of emotion in “Opening”, the shortest composition in this collection. Outset is an impressive album. Itamar Borochov has proven his work is worthy of many accolades.

For the last 20 plus years, Jazzhole has been recording some fantastic music. Marlon Saunders, Warren Rosenstein and John Pondel (nucleus members – Jazzhole) has certainly continued this tradition with the release of their seventh title – Blue 72. The theme this album draws upon is the pop and R&B tunes of 1972. They have revisited some of that year’s classics and produced a magnificent stroll down memory lane that is definitely worth giving a listen too.
