In recognition of April’s Poetry Month, Wenonah High School students celebrated by teaming with Birmingham Public Library for the Word Up! Poetry Contest. Over 175 students from the English classes of Mrs. Ada Blair and Mrs. Antoinette Hartley participated in Wenonah’s very own contest. Three poets extraordinaire emerged to win framed certificates, books, and a flash drive for the 1st place award.
Seniors Joel McCandless and Khiry Smith placed 2nd and 3rd, and Junior Jabriel Jones captured 1st place. Jabriel also performed at the BPL’s city-wide competition on April 6.
