More than 30 volunteers from Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Homewood participated in Habitat Birmingham’s “Building on Faith” program on April 5 the feast day of St. Vincent Ferrer the patron saint of builders. Most of the volunteers were members of the Knights of Columbus and the OLS Youth Group. During Lent, OLS and other congregations of various faiths have come together to build a house for Terrance Cooper and his mother in Ensley. Their house was destroyed in the 2011 tornado.
OLS participated at the “builder” level and the parish donated $5,000 and 25 volunteers to the program. Some of the adults taking part were: Joe Alesce, Meredith Asher, Madison Brown, Thomas Cavender, Marc Corsini, Paul DiGiorgio, Mike Eltz, Jack Fagan, Kent Graeve, Jesus Gutierrez, Don Fleming, George Harris, Wes Hill, Warren Kyle, Mike Montenegro, Bill Miller, Ann Morel (for lunch), Adam Morel, Anthony Marino, Burt Nabors, Jon Shull, and John Tighe. OLS Youth who worked were: Maddie Bald, Nicholas Corsini, Emma Clare Johnson, Sam Kyle, Anna Lee Nabors, Alyssa Rapadas, Alexandra Shull, and Catherine Shull.
