And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. Luke 22:41-43
How many of you have said at one time or another “Lord let your will be done” when something in your life needed His input or intervention? How many times has His will been so different from what you wanted or expected? Probably most of the time. We tend to go to God when we can’t make a decision or someone has done something to us that we don’t know what to do about or for various other reasons asking Him to do what He feels should be done. Most of those times we don’t really want to do what God would suggest because it is so contrary to what we really want to do. Like Jesus, sometimes we know for sure what His will is but our circumstances or situations make us want to do something else.
For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship. 1 Corinthians 9:17
God knows that you have struggles with forgiveness, anger, spending, loving someone that has wronged you and so much more; however, He wants to know what is more important to you – to do His will or to do yours. He has promised in His Word repeatedly that there are blessings for obedience and even though you may not agree with His will or decision about your situation, the Word of God says if you would obey and follow His direction, you will find yourself in a much better place than you had planned. Not that it won’t be painful, as was the crucifixion of Jesus but the end result, the resurrection and ascension to Heaven, made the initial pain worth it all. Don’t stagnate your life anymore – get in God’s will and move forward.
Don’t be stubborn – OBEY!
