Wenonah Students Place in BCS Basketball Special Olympics

Wenonah Special OlympicsStudents in Ms. Rikesha Foster’s class at Wenonah High School competed in the Birmingham City Schools Special Olympics on March 7, placing 2nd in the high school basketball competition. Ms. Foster and Mr. William Moon, their team coach, accompanied the students to the event at Huffman High School. Students also took part in individual events in the competition which was sponsored by the Birmingham Special Education and Transition Departments.
Now in their  second year participating, the students also competed in bowling earlier this year.
Other schools who sent teams were Green Acres and Ossie Ware Mitchell middle schools, and Carver, Huffman, and Parker high schools. Green Acres and Huffman placed lst in their divisions in basketball. Maria Lyas Young is the Interim Director of Special Education.
