Hands On Birmingham has taken on the challenge to recruit 950 volunteers for Project Homeless Connect. Project Homeless Connect (PHC) is a nationwide annual event that brings needed services to the homeless community on one day at one location. This year PHC will be held on Saturday, April 5th from 7:30a.m. – 3p.m. at The Boutwell Auditorium. The event is produced by One Roof, a local nonprofit organization that serves as an advocate for the homeless in our community. Many different community agencies collaborate to deliver services that can offer a pathway out of homelessness.
Hands On Birmingham volunteers serve as the “Smiling Faces” client guides. The goal is to match each of the 950 homeless clients with a volunteer that can guide them through the network of service providers. Client guides offer support, encouragement and help completing paperwork and identifying services needed to access housing and employment. Volunteers can register at
