The City of Birmingham today announced the official schedule of the Dalai Lama Visit in Birmingham this fall. The Dalai Lama is scheduled to arrive in Birmingham on Friday, October 24th and will be in the City through Monday, October 27th. Public and private events are being planned culminating with an address by His Holiness on the afternoon of Sunday, October 26th and planned for Regions Field. The entire weekend will take on a Human Rights theme with area schools, libraries and museums participating.
“We are honored to have His Holiness the Dalai Lama visit our City. With our shared legacy of Human Rights, Birmingham continues to establish herself as the cradle of Human Rights for the United States. The peaceful protest model first established here has been used around the world to enact real and significant change. The Dalai Lama has mentioned Dr. King’s ‘Letter from the Birmingham Jail’ as a significant inspiration of his. This visit will continue the work of presenting Birmingham on a national and international stage as 50 years forward,” said Mayor William Bell.
City officials are mapping out the exact logistics of the visit working with the University of Alabama at Birmingham and across jurisdictions to insure a once in a lifetime event for the City. Additional details will be available next month including access to tickets for the public events.
