birmingham-skyline-1024x678During the Birmingham City Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 4, 2014, Council: 

Approved an Ordinance authorizing the Mayor to enter into a Real Estate Exchange Agreement with the Birmingham Board of Education under which the Board will convey to the City property known as the “Service Center” located at 2320 – 8th Avenue North, which has a value of $806,250.00, and the City will convey to the Board certain City-owned properties located at 3900 – 8th Avenue North, 6910 Georgia Road, 701 – 13th Street SW, 1241 Tuscaloosa Avenue, 125 – 63rd Street North and 1240 – 12th Street SW, which have a combined value of $876,856.00, with the difference in the appraised value of the properties to be deemed a donation by the City to the Board for educational purposes. Other items approved by the Council at today’s meeting include the following:

1. Placed on consent an Ordinance “to further amend the General Fund Budget” by appropriating $2,250.00 to Fire Department – Instruction and Training from Miscellaneous Revenue. For more information, contact the office of Councilor Valerie Abbott at 254.2355.

2. Placed on consent an Ordinance “to further amend the grants fund budget” by appropriating $625,000.00 to Community Development – Disaster Recovery Grant (DTR-13-06) per grant reward received per Resolution No. 1378-13. 3. Placed on consent a Resolution authorizing the Mayor to execute a Project Agreement with Dynamic Civil Solutions, Inc., under which DCS will purchase, renovate and relocate into a building located at 2210 – 2nd Avenue North in order to retain its business operations in the City and the City will provide financial incentives totaling $60,000.00 to DCS in support of the project, payable in three annual payments of $20,000.00 each. 4. Placed on consent a Resolution (1) finding that the payment of $1,000.00 to Morning Star Christian Church to provide facility usage for the Sherman Heights Neighborhood Association meeting constitutes a public purpose; (2) authorizing the expenditure of the total amount of $1,000.00 in City of Birmingham funds, which have been allocated to the Sherman Heights Neighborhood Association, payable to Morning Star Christian Church; and (3) authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement with the Morning Star Christian Church for this purpose. 5. Placed on consent a Resolution

(1) finding that the payment of $1,000.00 to St. John Life Center, Inc. to provide facility usage for the Dolomite Neighborhood Association meetings constitutes a public purpose;

(2) authorizing the expenditure of the total amount of $1,000.00 in City of Birmingham funds, which have been allocated to the Dolomite Neighborhood Association, payable to St. John Life Center, Inc.; and

(3) authorizing the Mayor to execute an agreement with St. John Life Center, Inc. for this purpose. For more information, contact the office of Councilor Valerie Abbott at 254.2355.

6. Set a public hearing March 18, 2014 to consider the adoption of an Ordinance “to amend the zoning district map of the city of Birmingham” (Case No. ZAC2014-00001) to change zone district boundaries from R-3 Single Family District and R-6 Multiple Dwelling District to B-2 General Business District, filed by William C. Byrd, III, representing the owners Limbaugh Toyota, BD Toy, LLC, and the City of Birmingham, for parcels of land generally abutting property located at 2200 Avenue T Ensley, situated in the NW ¼ of Section 5, Township 18-S, Range 3-West, Birmingham.

8. Councilor Marcus Lundy, Jr. will host the District 9 Leadership Meeting at Morningstar Baptist Church on Saturday, February 15, 2014. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 a.m. and the meeting will start at 9:00 a.m.
