The Annual Stillman College Sunday, a signature event at Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 40 years, will be observed at 3 p.m., Sunday, February 9 at Westminster. The nationally-renowned Stillman College Concert Choir, which has been featured in the “Birmingham Magazine,” will perform at the event, under the direction of Bruce Alvin Thompson.
Stillman’s choir has a touring group of 30 singers and a repertoire of music encompassing various periods and styles. The choir’s acclaim, noted in various rave reviews, highlights its ability to perform distinct areas of church music: European offerings from four centuries, century-old Negro spirituals, and gospel music of today.
During the concert intermission, a scholarship presentation will be made to selected local high school students and students currently enrolled at Stillman College by Stillman College Scholarship Golf Tournament Committee-Birmingham. Members of that committee include: Arthur Bailey, Cora Williams, Jordan Frazier, Alvin Washington, Darryl Jones, and Gloria Dennard.
Stillman alumni, friends, and supporters, plus the community at-large are encouraged to attend this free, stellar event for an afternoon of mesmerizing choral entertainment.
Dr. Peter Millet is Interim President at Stillman College. Local members of Stillman Board of Trustees include: Judge Eligah D. Clark, Gloria A. Dennard, and Alfonzo Denson.
