MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Alabama State University sophomore guard Jamel Waters has been named the College Sports Madness Southwestern Athletic Conference Player of the Week.
The Birmingham native averaged 17 points per game in leading the Hornets to wins at Jacksonville State and a home win over Chicago State.
He shot 50 percent from the field (10-20) during the two games and hit 13 of his 14 free throw attempts (.928%). He also had 10 assists over the course of the two games and chipped in with six rebounds and four steals.
After the first five games of the season Waters leads the Hornets in scoring at 16.4 points per game and leads the team in assists (30) and steals (10). He is shooting 49 percent from the field and 79 percent from the free throw line.
ASU has a few days off before their next game which will be at in-state rival Troy University, Saturday Dec. 7 at 1 p.m.
