Kim Scott, Chair of the Alabama School of Fine Arts music department is this year’s honoree of the Birmingham Music Club Guild’s Rhythm & Muse Gala on Saturday, February 1, 2014. Scott is the 1993 Music Guild Scholarship winner. A nationally recognized jazz flutist whose 2013 CD track “Golden” released as Number One on Billboard Radio’s Smooth Jazz chart, Scott is also an ASFA alumna, and has brought several Grammy Award winners to the school to teach master classes. She received the 2013 Outstanding Arts School Alumnus Award from the Arts Schools Network (ASN), the nation’s largest professional membership organization of specialized arts schools, as well as numerous other local and national honors.
The Birmingham Music Guild’s annual fundraising gala fundraiser, Rhythm & Muse, provides music scholarships that benefit Alabama college students in their undergraduate work. The Guild has raised more than $500,000 over the years for worthy music students.
The Cocktail-Dinner hour begins at 6:30 p.m., and features “Bubbles for Baubles,” the opportunity to win one of three stunning gemstones, vintage botanicals, professional photography package, beauty basket or a cake/cookie decorating party for children for only $25 a chance. The chance ticket price includes a sparkling glass of champagne.
An exciting live auction hosted by Granger Thagard & Associates will follow. Lucky guests can bid to win three luxury trips, a Music Guild Board Wine Collection, a Year of Dining for Two at a dozen local restaurants, Alabama and Auburn football packages, a party complete with a live band, and other fabulous auction items.
The evening will close with dancing to the band, “City Lights.” Tickets to the event are $75 per person and $150 per couple.
