Wenonah High School students were treated to a visit from one of Birmingham’s living history makers who is featured on the 2014 Alabama African American History Calendar. On November 12, Dr. Henry Panion, composer, arranger, conductor, and professor in the Department of Music at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, set off a chain of possibilities in students’ minds as he spoke to them in the auditorium. Dr. Panion related to them his journey from high school student in Midfield to arranger, composer, and conductor for stars ranging from Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin to major symphonies of the world.
