MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Alabama State University place kicker Bobby Wenzig and defensive tackle Derrick Billups have received player of the week honors following the Hornets’ win at Mississippi Valley State University.
Wenzig kicked two field goals, one from 31 yards out and the other a season-long 46 yarder in being named the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Special Teams Player of the Week. He also punted the ball seven times averaging 45.7 yards per punt. Two of his punts were downed inside the 20 yard line, and two other punts were returned for -2 yards.
Billups play in the middle of the defensive line helped the Hornets’ defense hold the Delta Devils to only 67 yards rushing and 278 yards total offense as he was named the College Sports Madness SWAC Defensive Player of the Week. Billups had nine tackles with 6.5 of those coming behind the line of scrimmage for minus 28 yards. He also had 1.5 sacks which lost eight yards.
