The following ASFA students have been selected as National Merit or National Achievement Semifinalists:
Both 12th grade Math & Science students Devin Sun and Pooja Wagle have been selected as National Merit Semifinalists; 12th grade Math & Science student Jeremia Muthia and 12th grade Music student Jaylen Leonard have been selected as National Achievement Semifinalists.
These students were selected based on their high scoring results from the Preliminary SAT and National Merit Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT administered last fall.
Approximately 16,000 semifinalists have been identified and have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some of the 8,000 National Merit Scholarships worth $35 million that will be offered in the spring. Approximately 800 National Achievement Scholarships worth about $2.5 million will be offered to academically promising Black students in the spring.
The National Merit Scholarship Program, which also conducts the National Achievement Scholarship Program, honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
