Fun, songs, and fellowship dominated the celebration of Marguerite Warren’s 103rd birthday on July 29 at Green Briar Center at the Altamont. Several members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Birmingham Alumnae Chapter, and Westminster Presbyterian Church gathered around the bed of Warren in a display of love, sisterhood, and well wishes. Numerous birthday cards were read and posted, exciting gifts were opened and admired, and a beautiful birthday cake, supplied by Birmingham Chapter President, Shirley Witt Taylor, was shared. Gloria Dennard and Earlie Simmons provided party favors and a birthday banner, and photos were taken by various members to preserve the precious, memorable moments.
Marguerite Warren, a former classroom teacher of Chemistry in Fairfield, Birmingham, and Jefferson County Schools, continues to be a favorite teacher to her former students, as exemplified in this celebration of love and appreciation.
A member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated for over 82 years and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for approximately 42 years, Warren has endeared herself to many over the years, as a gracious, kindhearted friend, supporter, and encourager in the sorority and in her church. Warren was also long-time historian for Birmingham Alumnae Chapter and is credited with having written the first comprehensive history of the chapter and having it preserved at the Birmingham Public Library.
Planners for Warren’s birthday celebration consisted of: Shirley Witt Taylor, President of Birmingham Alumnae Chapter; Dr. Felecia Dailey, Vice-President; Michelle Williams, Chaplain; Michelle Davis-Avery, Gloria Dennard,  Essie Gambles, Linda Harris, Yvonne Madison, Candice Reese, Regina Robinson, Earlie Simmons, Cynthia Walton, and Carole Watkins.
